Is nature really as strange as quantum theory says — or are there simpler explanations?…
Browsing: Neutrons
Neutrons are subatomic particles found in the nucleus of an atom, alongside protons. They are electrically neutral, lacking a net electric charge, which distinguishes them from positively charged protons and negatively charged electrons. Neutrons play a crucial role in the stability of the nucleus, with their presence helping to mitigate the electrostatic repulsion between protons. Discovered by James Chadwick in 1932, neutrons are fundamental to the basic structure of matter and are instrumental in various nuclear reactions, including nuclear fission and fusion. Neutrons are also used in many applications outside of physics, such as neutron scattering techniques in materials science for studying the properties of materials, and in medicine for cancer treatment through neutron therapy.
