What does an Astronaut do with his free time when he’s bored? The answer is, pretty much anything he wants. He’s in space; no one is going to tell him any different. In this case, Japanese astronaut Satoshi Furukawa decided to play some baseball. And since he lacked a full team, (as well as gravity) he figured that he would play a game of one-man baseball on the International Space Station.
The laws of physics make it a whole different ballgame. In Space-ball as I’m calling it, you are always the MVP and always on the winning team. The video shows Satoshi delivering the pitch and then floating to the other side of the room to swing at it. He connects and then proceeds to make the catch for the out. That’s another thing about Space-Ball. You never score. There are also very few bloopers.
I can think of worse things to do with your time. I can’t wait until we have Space-Ball championships on TV. He’s back on Earth now and likely finding that the game is not so easy.
