Browsing: Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks, commonly known as deer ticks. The disease is primarily characterized by its initial symptom, a distinctive “bull’s-eye” rash, accompanied by fever, headache, fatigue, and joint pain. If left untreated, Lyme disease can progress to cause more severe neurological and cardiac issues, as well as chronic joint inflammation. Early diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics are crucial to prevent long-term complications. The disease is most prevalent in the northeastern, north-central, and Pacific coastal regions of the United States, corresponding to the geographic distribution of the deer tick.
